Alternative City Escape
For a more modern summer escape, head to the historic city of Edinburgh. You can easily spend a weekend here, seeing the sites and enjoying a bit of Scottish culture. For an adventurous meal out, try Kanpai Sushi, or go for a veggie lunch at Henderson's.
Spend your day exploring the many free attractions Edinburgh has to offer, including the Royal Botanic Gardens and the National Museum of Scotland. For a reasonably priced, Georgian hotel, The Salisbury is a bargain, and only 20 minutes' walk away from Edinburgh central.
Seaside Retreat
Margate is a great family escape by the sea. This cultural hotspot boasts retro shops and its own Turner Contemporary art gallery. Old Town is a bohemian area that is great for a bite to eat and a little retail therapy. If you're looking for theater, Margate can boast a variety of venues, packed with entertainment.
For a charming, boutique place to stay, we'd recommend The Reading Rooms.
Woodland Cabins
Throughout the country, Forest Holidays offers luxury cabins for all the family. Enjoy a glass of bubbly in your own hot tub and order pizza to your cabin, when you're feeling peckish. The cabins are fully-fitted with their own kitchens and widescreen televisions. Pay a little extra, and you can get an entertainment package, loaded with some of the latest films to hit the cinema.
There are plenty of activities to choose from, including archery and bike riding. Get away from it all and have fun!
Coastal Campervanning
Book into a campervan for a few days and enjoy the beach life. This is a great opportunity to go for long coastal walks, or maybe even learn how to surf! Although, the water will be pretty choppy... so take a wetsuit!
English Wine Week
Sorry, what? Yes. English wine week. We can grow our own vino too -- who needs sunny weather to make a corker of a bottle of wine? You might want to keep the kids out of this, depending on the event, but across the country, you can expect wine tastings and vineyard tours.
Port Lympne and Howletts
Owned by the charitable wildlife foundation, Aspinall Foundation, these two animal parks make conservation fun. Port Lympne, in particular, offers a wild safari experience, where you can make the most of a weekend break in luxurious accommodation and wake up to the sound of the savannah (if not the African weather). Howletts specialises in kids days out and is more typically like a standard wildlife park than a safari!
Cheshire Gardens
Summer is the perfect time to visit gardens -- everything is just coming into bloom! See bluebells, snowdrops, and daffodils as you explore the many public gardens that Cheshire has to offer. Keep an eye out for interesting events that you can get on board with! From willow weaving to garden parties, there's plenty to do throughout the year.
