Wes Anderson's newest, The Grand Budapest Hotel, follows the story of a 1930s concierge of a glorious, pink hotel with Budapest, Hungary as its namesake -- a European city that is more than deserving of the attention the film affords it (think top-notch Euro luxury at unbelievable prices). Although it's impossible to stay at the hotel in the movie, because it does not, in fact, exist, hotel search trivago brings you the next best thing -- a glimpse into the six grandest hotels of Budapest -- properties that may or may not have influenced Wes Anderson's artistic choices. While Wes Anderson hasn't confirmed that the historic Corinthia Hotel Budapest inspired the fictional Grand Budapest Hotel in his film, the similarities between the two are striking. The façade of the Corinthia, which opened in Hungary's capital city in 1896 as "The Grand Hotel Royal" (see historic advertisement above), bears an uncanny resemblance to the hotel in the movie. After a major restoration project in which the property was painstakingly restored to its former glory, it reopened as the five-star Corinthia Hotel Budapest in 2002. For a limited time, movie buffs can enjoy an exclusive three-night "Behind the Scenes" stay at the Corinthian, where they will learn about the history of the Hungarian film industry (which has its roots in the Corinthia Hotel's Grand Ballroom) and about the Hollywood heavyweights who have checked in over the past century.
