Skier Ted Ligety Talks With A Snowflake To Raise Awareness About Climate Change

Last year, skier and two-time Olympic gold medalist Ted Ligety sat down on a mountain in Greenland to have a conversation with a snowflake.

Yes, you read that correctly -- Ligety talked, and even rapped, with a semi-depressed and frustrated snowflake to raise awareness about climate change. This quirky clip is from the "I Am Pro Snow" campaign, a initiative by Al Gore's The Climate Reality Project that raises awareness about climate change. They partnered with Warren Miller Entertainment, the leading production company in action sports, and sent a group of "Climate Ambassadors," including Ted Ligety, Mark Abma, Michelle Parker and Doug Stoup, to Greenland in 2013 to witness climate change firsthand.

Though the clip was filmed in 2013, it's now been released at the heels of the closing of the 2014 Winter Olympics -- the warmest Winter Olympic event in recorded history, according to Slate.

And Ted Ligety isn't the only Olympian speaking up about warming winters. More than 100 Olympians signed a petition that calls on world leaders to act on climate change, and several athletes wrote op-eds that expressed concern for the future of winter sports.
